Journal_Day_15_SORC_Sculpture_In_Museum.jpg (10020 bytes)      Today was our last day in DC.We both had a good nights sleep and were ready for the day ahead. This was our second and final day in the Smithsonian.   However, instead of looking at big rockets and flying machines, we took a leisurely stroll through the Museum of American Art. I was fascinated by the level and complexity of the artwork, pointing out to Rex the style and method the artist used.  On the other hand, Rex was eager to take pictures until the cows came home. So, I with my trained art eye, set off to look at the artwork while Rex, with-uh a photogenic eye took lot of pictures of the artwork.  Occasionally, we would meet in the same room or in the hall.

Journal_Day_15_Painter_Paintng_Children.jpg (10473 bytes)      Since Rex had the camera, most of the photos were taken by him.   Most of the pictures that were taken were statutes of scantily clad women.   Either he was getting the artistic eye for them or he just like taking pictures of naked women, I don't know. However, it was I that scanned and formatted the pictures. So no naked women for you.(This is a family site, you know!!)

Journal_Day_15_Front_Of _White_House.jpg (10060 bytes)      After the visit to the art museum, we decided to visit the Capital.  Earlier in the morning, we wanted to visit the White House, but the tours to see the insides ended at 12:00pm. We wanted to see some REAL action so off to the Capital we went.   Rex suggested that we should see the Senate and House in action, so we went to the top of the stairs where the capital faced the mall and....no luck. We couldn't get in from that way.  So we went down the stairs and... still no luck. The guard that was there told us to go around the capital to the front entrance. So we did. When we got there and another guard told us to go down the street and line up in the line that goes inside the capital.
Journal_Day_15_Dome_Under_Construction.jpg (10556 bytes)       By this time, Rex and I were dying of heat exhaustion but we managed to get to the line  As we got in, Rex was asking around about how we could get to the Senate and House to sit in and watch. Our journey, literally, took us in and out of hallways, up and down elevators, and back and forth on the trolley system they have underneath the capital.  In order for us to view the Senate and House in action we needed to get special permission from our Senator(s) of the state we are from.  So we went to Senator Feinstein's office (which was cool) and got our tickets. We went through a maze of doors and staircases and yes, those dreaded medal detectors to get to the Senate and House. We viewed them for a while and then decided to leave because of starvation.
Journal_Day_15_Dodis_Uncle_With_Jeff.jpg (10006 bytes)      We got on the subway headed for Clarendon and then we took off in the car.  Instead of just taking off for our journey home, we had a very nice welcome from my Uncle Paul, who lives in Virginia.  We pulled up to his house and I was greeted with open arms. We talked over some cool drinks and had a small tour of his house.  We then proceeded to take pictures of us all (Paul, Jeff, Rex, and I).  We were all going to go out to dinner, however Jeff, Uncle Paul's son, was feeling a bit ill.  So all three of us went out but Uncle Paul wanted to get Jeff something to eat. Rex and I went in one car and Paul in another so that Paul could bring home some dinner for his son.  We finally met at a restaurant and Rex and Uncle Paul got off to a good start talking.  About what??  Computers of course.  What else??  Anyway, I was able to talk about family and stuff, which was good. We finished our meals and I said my good byes to Uncle Paul. Thanks Uncle Paul!! Your the greatest! We set our course to Somerset, PA and headed off.
