While Dodi was most impressed with the White House (Hey, Bill lives there!), Rex thought the FDR Memorial was most touching. It had a dozen or more quotes from FDR arranged in a sort of spatial time line. There were waterfalls (Such as the one above, right) of various types and sizes throughout the winding memorial. It is somewhat off the beaten path and very new. |
After we saw the FDR Memorial, we continued around the tidal basin to the Jefferson Memorial. It was, according to the signs, in the process of being preserved, but we didn't see any Formaldehyde anywhere. We assume that they will be trucking it in later. Because of that, we were not able to get very good pictures of the building itself. Rex would have preferred a Panoramic picture such as he was able to do for the other buildings, but, alas, such was not in the cards. He will no doubt make up for it in some other fashion, perhaps by doing a huge day 13 update. |
| By this time Rex and Dodi were getting pretty tired. It was 4 in the afternoon and they had walked some 3 miles or more in the heat. But there was still one building they had not seen, had not gotten a panoramic picture of. The Capitol Building. It gleamed off in the distance, a mere 1 mile walk away. Nothing could stop our fearless picture hounds. |

| We made it to the Capitol Building.
Barely. The long day of walking had taken its toll and we were exhausted.
We made a bee line for the subway and headed for home. Ironically enough,
somehow with all the exhaustion we ended up on the wrong train. We had to get off
and take another train back and get on a third train to get ourselves home. We had a great American meal at a local Dinner and headed back home for rest and web updates. Tomorrow we do the Smithsonian! |
